A simple screen for them. A Family Portal for everyone looking out for them. One subscription, kept secure and maintained.
Big tiles, one tap each. The App is built for Android tablets or phones, but it's best displayed on a tablet for use by elderly users — easier to press the buttons, play the games, and see clearly, particularly from a distance.
The day, date and time are always shown on the front screen, with Family Call and Emergency Health Info buttons always within reach.
Works like an Uber driver's bridged number call — no SIM card needed, and the cost of calls isn't passed on to the User; it's covered by the existing subscription.
A jigsaw made from your own photos, Tic Tac Toe, Word Find, Word Hunt, Word Pool, Tap the Frog, a colouring "game", and a match-the-cards game (the one Nicole built and named after a man called Lindsay — his story is here).
10 Photo Books, 30 photos in each — 300 photos in total. Family and friends can be invited to upload and send photos directly to the User's tablet.
Upload your own music as MP3s — genuinely encouraged, not just supported.
Accessed from any computer or smart device. The admin uploads initial photos, health information, medication reminders and music, and whatever's added shows up on the User's tablet straight away.
There can be more than one admin on each account without further charges — admin duty can be handed to any trusted person, even a carer.
As admin, send a message to the screen to remind the User of something important — a real benefit if they suffer from dementia and call constantly for the same reason.
Carers and family sign in to their own page to log the day: food, drinks, bowel movements, exercise, activities, and basic health info like BP, BSL and temperature if needed — giving an overview and a record to show doctors if health changes.
Admin can send invitations so family and friends can email photos straight to the User's App — lovely if someone's travelling, or there's a special occasion.
Family members have their own individual logins to the Family Portal, and can forward the stored emergency health information by email directly from it, and review recent care history entered by carers or family.
An 11" tablet with a cover, with sufficient RAM, ROM and Wifi to run the App in kiosk mode — it can't be "closed" or lost. If the App is funded through a government package, it has to be locked down this way.
The App and phone function run on Wifi — no separate phone or internet bills if you already have Wifi. Without it, the App can go on a tablet with a SIM card for data instead.
Usually one device is enough, but the same App and information for the same person can sync across up to 3 devices — kitchen, bedroom, lounge, for example.
The subscription covers storing data securely, maintaining the App, and the phone-calling technology — plus security and technology upgrades as new features become available.
Funded through Aged Care Support at Home or an NDIS plan, if your OT, Dr or plan coordinator qualifies it as Assistive Digital Technology.
